During a career spanning more than 50 years, he was the first British craftsman to hold four Royal Warrants simultaneously. Although most notable for his designs in silver, Benney also created jewellery, clocks, lamps, and even prams. He is particularly notable for his work in enamelling. His work can be seen in many collections worldwide, including those of the Victoria & Albert Museum and The Goldsmiths' Company. In 1993, together with his son Simon, now also an accomplished goldsmith, Benny opened a shop in Knightsbridge, London and two years later was awarded a CBE. Today the family firm is under the direction of Simon Benney.
