Pair of (18th c) Mahogany side chairs with shell carved shaped crest rail scrolled ears, carved and pierced splat, trapezoidal slip seat, cabriole legs carved with acanthus leaves and raised with ball and claw feet. 40 x 21 x 18 inches. Note: This has been consigned by the direct descendents of Captain John Brown, son of Thomas and Mary Nicholson Brown, was born in Marblehead and baptized there February 27, 1737. He died there Âsuddenly, September 10, 1816, aged seventy-nine years. He is the John Brown who served in 1775 in the Revolution in Captain MerrittÂs company of Colonel GloverÂs regiment, and also with Captain Manley in the schooner ÂLeeÂ. In 1778 he was captain aboard the ÂHunterÂ, twenty guns, which sailed from MÂhead and took six prizes. In 1780 he was captain of the ship ÂJackÂ, sixteen guns, and took three prizes.
