After Antoine Van Dyck (1599 1641)
Portrait of Isabella Clara Eugenia
Oil on canvas. Daughter of King Philip II of Spain, Isabella Clara Eugenia became regent of the southern provinces of the Netherlands in 1598. The portrait of Isabella in religious clothing by Van Dyck is in keeping with the tradition of her ancestors: Margaret of Austria, Mary of Hungary, and Margaret of Parma. the first portrait of Isabella in religious clothing was painted by Peter Paul Rubens in 1625.
