SMALL AUTUMN MOUNTAIN IN JADE NEPHRITE CELADON AND RUST, QIUSHAN 秋山

Sculpted in a celadon stone veined with rust in different reliefs and, above all, in openings. It depicts a typical Song period subject called "Autumn Mountain". On a rock with many crevices rise majestically, pines and four deer. There are also longevity champoignons / lingzhi / amadouviers. Intelligent use of stone by the sensitive lapidary, particularly in the rust that completes the iconography since it concentrates, for the most part, on the foliage of a pine tree (natural veins and inclusions).

Note: During the Song period, the themes of the jades took a naturalistic turn, probably under the influence of contemporary painting. Two major themes stand out: the "Eaux du Printemps" (CHUNSHUI / 春水) showing wild geese among lotus ponds; the "Montagnes d'Automne", of which our stylish piece is an illustration.
