Note:
The painting shown above is part of a group of twelve paintings commissioned by Emperor Yongzheng while he was still Prince. They were intended to decorate the screen of the willow reading room, a study room located in the private quarters of the future emperor at the summer palace. A document found in the archives of the Department of Internal Affairs indicates that in 1732, ten years after Yongzheng's reign, these paintings were removed and stored individually. They are now on display to the public at the Summer Palace Museum in Beijing. These paintings are of particular importance. They show the Summer Palace as it looked when it was relatively new, before the vast extensions that were undertaken later in the 18th century. They are mainly visual and historical testimonies for research on the costumes, props and furniture of the women of the court of the Qing dynasty.
We can see in the background of this painting, our model of roller holder in applique.
