- Collection Eustache de LOREY. Acquired by the latter directly from the artist
- Private collection, Paris. Acquired from Eustache de LOREY in 1953 and remained in the same family since then.
Note:
The model of our work is ZITA, the young Italian girl, disguised as an oriental odalisque.
She presents her sculptural and languid body, lying sensually on the sofa in the alcove, which the artist has also decorated with warm and vaporous fabrics to recreate an atmosphere of reverie and exoticism directly from the Moorish interiors he had previously seen in Morocco.
This case, photographed in 1928, located in the artist's studio of Matisse place Charles Felix in Nice, has also inspired other artists such as Hélène
GALLAGHER who replaced ZITA, in a face-to-face with Sigmund FREUD

Our ink is not without evoking the artist's famous paintings:
Two "Odalisques à la culotte rouge" preserved, one at the Musée National d'Art
Moderne in Paris and the other from the Walter and Guillaume collections at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris (represented opposite).
Another odalisque entitled "Decorative figure on an ornamental background" is kept at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, and an "Odalisque with red trousers" is kept at the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Caracas.
Eustache de LOREY was Director of the French Institute of Archaeology and Muslim Art in Damascus from 1922 to 1930. In 1928, he was at the origin of the discovery of the mosaics of the Great Mosque of the Umayyads. As such, he is sometimes considered to be the inventor
