A Gorham Mfg. Co. Silver Presentation Pitcher with Figural Handle, Providence, Rhode Island, 1872 Marks: (lion-anchor-G), 490, 13 1/2 PINTS, STERLING, E 11-3/8 x 7-3/4 inches (28.9 x 19.7 cm) 30.04 troy ounces This presentation pitcher possibly refers to Julius H. Pardee, 2nd Lieutenant of the 23rd Infantry, who served in the western Indian Wars of the 1870s. Pardee ranked last in West Point's 1871 graduating class. At West Point, this ranking is traditionally known as the "goat." The engraving to the front of the pitcher reads Pardee from ALL OF US, and was possibly given as a gift to Pardee from his classmates commemorating this position. HID03101242017
