A Papua Gulf Keveke ancestor board mask. Papua New Guinea. 2nd half of the 20th century. 63 1/2" x 24" x 9". ÂThis is a traditional form, but it stops being a gope and becomes keveke. By sewing the fiber panel at the back it stops being a spirit board and becomes a mask embodying the spirit of the board. This is a fairly modern style, that closely mimics the earlier ones from the 1930s. Consultation October 2019
