Sheriff's Summons Signed by Thomas Heyward, Jr., Declaration of Independence Signatory, 1788 Heyward, Thomas Jr. (1746-1809), signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation as a representative of South Carolina, later served as a judge. Partially printed DS as judge, "Thos. Heyward," 1p, 12.25 x 6.75 in., "South-Carolina." August 27, 1788. Document compels the sheriffs of South Carolina to summon John Palmer Esquire, Executor of the estate of Philip Williams, regarding money owed to John Gaillard. Heyward's signature appears boldly at left margin.
