A JAMES ROSS BROWN 'THISTLE' WATER IRON, CIRCA 1904Patent No. 10786: uniquely this six tine iron has the Vine decoration of the patented James Ross Brown 'Major'. The back of the club head is stamped 'Brown's Patent Montrose N.B.' and has a bent hickory shaft complete with a good hide leather grip.
注脚This club is considered to be a prototype predecessor of the Thistle and the Major and so is most unusual and rare. The shaft bend was not intentional; it has bowed with age because the shaft was not fully seasoned at the time of manufacture.
