CHAPMAN (ABEL) Naturalist and hunter, grandson of Joseph Crawhall, 1851-1929Manuscripts for 'Spring-Notes in Norway' and 'Wild Norway' Original hand written manuscripts for his subsequent book Wild Norway published in 1897. Spring-Notes in Norway is approx. 100pp, including short published articles on Norway, morocco backed boards (spine defective) 1886. Wild Norway is approx. 80pp, small folio, morocco backed boards, 1897-99, together with a series of 26 original pencil, pen and ink drawings by Chapman used in the above works, averaging in size 14 - 22cm注脚'Spring-Notes in Norway' was the result of a five week ornithological shooting, fishing and sketching expedition in May/June 1886. The original manuscript notebook was started on Sept 30th 1886 and contained the author's observations on the above subjects, some sketches, newspaper cuttings and photographs. The following note appears in red ink on the index page:
1893 - as regards Norway, all the material in this book has now been amalgamated and worked up into chapters, in 'Fair Copy', for my proposed 'Scandinavian Volume' - NB. Arctic articles not used, signed with initials 'AC'.
'Wild Norway' contains notes subsequent to publication in 1897. The manuscript notebook contains zoological notes and reflections on salmon fishing and big game intended for a second edition of the book.
