American, 1995. Wooden sculpture in the form of a bird of prey, its wings creating an enclosed space, an embroidered pin hangs in the interior, a separate lidded box with two feathers rests inside. Marked T. Rauschke 95 on underside, pin marked TR and Kaaren 95; ht. 9.75, wd. 8.25, dp. 8 in.Â
Note reads: The Guardian Bird old them that if they would fly toward the Northwest they would eventually reach the land ruled by the Great yellow Elephant and that there at last they would find what they were seeking.
Rauschke is known for nature-inspired scenes, specifically from the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Wisconsin. This sculpture features an embroidered piece by his wife Kaaren Wilken.
