AN INDIAN BONE, MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND IVORY-INLAID SITAR Northern or Central India, 19th century Of typical design, with a gourd-shaped resonance chamber and a long hollow neck, only one string remaining of the original seven, the wood plain, the resonance chamber and the neck decorated with micro-mosaic of bone, ivory and mother-of-pearl tesserae shaped as floral tendrils, rosettes, birds and spotted quadrupeds, the decorative style of the marquetry work in tune with the Indo-Portuguese Goa production, 99cm high.
