A BRASS FINIAL WITH SHRI HANUMAN'S FACE Maharashtra, West India, 19th century On a stepped conical base, Hanuman's cast brass face rendered with large almond-shaped eyes, a pointy nose, large mouth with fangs, on the forehead the Vaishnavite tilaka (urdhva pundra) to symbolise his adherence to the cult of Vishnu's avatars, the interior plain, reminiscent in shape and design to certain Karnataka's bhutamasks, 25cm high.
