Extremely fine, small fluted Japanese porcelain bowl dating from the 19th century. The bowl is decorated with underglaze blue wash on the outside with gold scrolling overlaid with various shaped reserves: red and gold phoenix and tortoise, green and red dragon, floral heart-shaped vignette scenes and more. Inside the rim is a blue, red, and gold scenic border with a blue underglaze peony medallion in the center. Unidentified character marks on the base. Dimensions: 8 3/4" in diameter and 4 5/8" in depth. One small rim chip.
