Edward Ruggles (1818 - 1867). Oleo on Canvas. Painter and physician. Born in Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to Sophia Tupper Willis (1791 – 1821) and Micah Haskell Ruggles (1791 – 1857). Though some sources indicate a birth year of 1817 or 1819, he was in fact born in in 1818 according to Massachusetts state records. His mother died when he was a very young child, and his father remarried in 1823 to Lydia Rodman (1790 – 1869). In 1826 Micah Ruggles moved his new wife and family to Fall River, Massachusetts.
