STUNING, Jiajing Ming sgraffito famille jaune porcelain Meiping vase. The Plum vase skillfully shaped into a traditional Meiping form, with a narrow base, wide body, slender neck easing to form a petite opening. All served in egg-yolk underglaze base ground color. The main body decorated with hand painting encapsulated in the great snarling imperial five-claws dragon careening through cumulus ruyi clouds above thrashing Li-Shui waves. Banded with scrolling tendril, foliage and flower blooms on the shoulder and on the foot base. All bordered with double fine ring lines in every part Meiping vase. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the carving, and the shape. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, and distinct. This inadvertently gave texture, energy and shading to the design. The glaze terminating slightly about the foot base, with pale-creme base spotted firing marks, ground and unglazed under-base with dark-brown and black firing marks from kiln process.
