EXTRAORDINARY, RARE 15th C. Chinese Ming Dynasty Yongle reign blue and white peony porcelain moon vase. Molded into a compressed large coin globular body, with straight narrow neck with scrolling vines Chinese motif, raised on small splayed concave oval foot base. Two ribbon looped handles flanked from collar to the neck with scrolling pattern. The exterior decorated with hand painting in underglazed blue, depicted Intertwined floral vines and peony blooms shooting forth between scrolling leafy tendrils. Upper shoulder encircled with lotus petal patterns within upturning lappets, and a scrolling motif band circumscribes the neck. The shape is uniformly proportioned, without overlap of the outlines, well drawn, clear, subtle, and distinct. The clay is fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth, brilliant with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy and shading to the design. The shape is uniformly proportioned. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese Guanyao porcelain Imperial wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the painting, and the shape.The under base bear a reign mark, a six under-glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of Yongzheng Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.Measurements: Height: 9 3/8" Width: 7 5/8"PROVENANCE:From the collections of Dan Peters (1946 - Present), of South Atlanta-Georgia, private collector.A retired engineer and Christian School Administrator, has had the heart of a missionary to serve in many foreign countries aiding in building orphanages and hospitals in Russia, Romania, Ukraine, and other Asian countries. His worldwide travels have allowed him to enjoy the ability to collect treasures, some of his collection will be sold at auction to help raise funds for his ongoing work in Peru.
