Clyde Singer was born in Malvern, OH and is known for his American Scene style works. After studying at the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, he received a scholarship to attend the Arts Student League in New York City where he was mentored by Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry. In 1940 he was appointed the Assistant Director of the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH, where he resided for the rest of his life.
