Third quarter 19th century Stamped: WF / [star] / Ball, Black & Co. / Successors to / Marquand & Co. / New York Possibly made by either W. Forbes or W. Faris for Ball, Black & Co., the galleried top over a decagonal body with chased and repoussé flowers, inscribed: Lucy S. Lord / from / Mrs. Millard Fillmore / 1882 12.25" H x 8.5" W x 5.75" D 38.110 oz. troy approximately Notes: Lucy S. Lord was the niece of Rev. Dr. John C. Lord who, along with President Millard Fillmore, was a co-founder of the Buffalo Society for the Protection of Animals. Miss Lucy Lord is mentioned in a letter from Millard Fillmore to Rev. D.H. Mueller regarding the founding of a similar society in Rochester, NY dated November 15, 1873. This coffee pot was inscribed to Miss Lord and dated one year after the death of Mrs. Caroline Fillmore.
