bronze with copper inlay,Tibet, 16th century or earlier,Size: 13 cmSitting on double-lotus base, holding a skull cup in one hand while the other is raised to his ear. Wrapped in a monastic robe, a meditation belt inlaid with copper slung over his right shoulder. The style of the lotus base corresponds to the 16th century. Very unusual are two aspects of this sculpture. First of all differently from almost all known Milarepa statues, this one is Sitting in Vajra position. The secon is the fact that Milarepa wears a beard. A similar Lama shown with a beard like this was Chöd Drugpa Jamyang Gonpo.
