A Chinese gilt bronze figure of Budai, Ming Dynasty, probably 16th century. The large bronze laughing buddha is depicted in a seated position wearing a crown, dressed in loose robes and holding a string of prayer beads and cloth sack. Remnants of gilt decoration with traces of red lacquer and paint remain. 12.3 in (31.3 cm) height, 11.4 in (29 cm) width.
