A NEAR PAIR OF MULTAN TURQUOISE AND BLUE POTTERY VASES Sindh, Pakistan, mid to late 20th century Comprising two Multan pottery vases, of compressed baluster shape, resting on a splayed circular foot, with wide plump shoulders, rising to a stepped flared neck with straight tall rim, the body underglaze painted in turquoise and cobalt blue, the decoration consisting of a continuous band of oval portrait medallions to the centre, one vase with members of the court and Indian nobility, the latter with Hanuman, Rama, Shiva and other Hindu gods, the shoulders embellished with the typical stylised acanthus leaf motif, the neck and base with lotus petal-shaped decoration, 31.5cm high.
