In the Style of Ma Quan (active ca. 1700-1750), Flowers and Insects, 19th ct., hanging scroll, 61,5 x 30,5 cm, ink and colors on paper, Signature: "Lady Jiangxiang". Two seals of the artist: "Ma", "Quan". Ma Quan, style name Jiangxiang, was a famous woman painter from Changshu in Jiangsu province. She came from a family of painters and specialized in the painting of flowers and insects. She created her own style using fine outlines with delicate fillings of color. Together with four assistant girls she run a kind of atelier and her paintings were much sought after and also forged in a great number. She reached the age of eighty - Property from an old German private collection, assembled prior to 1975 - Minor traces of age.
