AN IMPORTANT MARBLE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, CHINA, NORTHERN QI DYNASTY (550 - 577 AD), standing in samabhanga on a circular pedestal carved with a tenon, both hands missing, wearing monastic robes including an under-garment falling down around his bare feet secured with a ribbon knotted to the front, a wide-sleeved mantle covering both shoulders falling down in schematic folds and fastened with a cord draped over his left shoulder to a robe section on his back, his face is displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows running into his nose-bridge, smiling lips, pronounced chin, elongated earlobes, curled hair continuing into the ushnisha and a pair of drilled holes to the back of his head probably for attachment to the temple-wall - Property from a European private collection, acquired from Kevork Essayan (1897-1981) in 1974 - Part. rest., minor damage due to age, losses
