Chinese traditional painting of ink on paper, laid to silk, hanging scroll. A grisaille hand painting with fine brush strokes depicting butterfly and fruiting branching tree; signed by artist, followed by a red signature seal. Mounted on olive-celadon metallic silk before the pale-celadon border. Butterfly - joy and conjugal felicity. Butterfly is pronounced in homonym with the word die which means a 80 years old. Two butterflies together is meant a wish of "longevity". "Die" is also pronounced similar to another word which means to "pile up" or "repeat" - and thus given the meaning "many". Measurements: (scroll): 75-1/2" L x 18-1/2" W inner painting: 26-1/2" L x 7-7/8" W
