YUAN Dynasty Chinese porcelain plate finely potted in shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide of Lishui wavy water shaped rim. All delicately in violet-blue underglaze base color. The central medallion reversed hand painted in gold-creme color with vigorous three-claws dragon borne amidst flames and clouds. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The broad everted mouth rim all reserved in cobalt-blue underglaze, leaving the outer rim in plain white underglaze. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the drawing, and the shape. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well drew, clear, subtle, and distinct. The clay is fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth, brilliant with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous.Measurements: 18-1/8" Diam.PROVENANCE: From the private collections of Green family, of New York, by inheritance.
