Pear Chinese porcelain vase, substantial rotund body with rounded shoulders converging into a short neck, with a slightly concave foot base. All delicately in a cobalt blue hand painting in a clean white under glazed base color. The shoulder decorated in lotus blooms interspersed with foliage, vines bounded with auspicious pattern, and upturning lappets on the neck. The belly depicted in a frame the great snarling imperial five-claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds flame above thrashing Li-Shui waves to chase a flaming pearls. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity and the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The lower belly decorated with scrolling tendril and foliage and ruyi on the foot base.Measurements: 12-1/8" H x 6-1/4" Diam.PROVENANCE: From the private collections of Green family, of New York, by inheritance.
