A white and russet jade Mandarin-duck finial


Ming DynastyFinely carved a Mandarin duck resting on a lotus leaf and flower and grasping the stems, the feathers incised lightly on the edges, the stone of white tone with minor brown inclusions. 4.8cm (2in) long.

Compare with a white jade mandarin duck finial, Yuan dynasty, formerly in the Songzhutang collection of early jades, which was sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 30 May 2017, lot 61. 白玉質，隨籽料形圓雕鴛鴦，眉眼翎羽皆陰刻之，短喙，口銜荷葉蓮花一枝，鴛鴦身形肥碩，腳下承蓮葉荷花，鴛鴦口銜之荷花恰以皮色巧雕之，可見匠心。此件鴛鴦之形頗得元明時風，可參考一件松竹堂舊藏之元代白玉鴛鴦爐頂，形狀、風格頗似，2017年5月30日售於香港邦瀚斯，拍品編號61。
