A fine white jade 'deer' brushrest


18th centurySkilfully carved as two recumbent deer with the stag carved with twin antlers turning the head backwards looking at the doe while grasping a lingzhi sprig in his mouth, the doe modelled with a ruyi-shaped mane, the smoothly polished stone of an even white tone, wood stand. 10.9cm (4 2/7in) wide. See also a related example which was sold at Bonhams London, 12 May 2016, lot 156.白玉質，色若霜雪，質潤膏腴，隨片料之形圓雕牡牝二鹿，因勢治材，匠心巧用。牡鹿銜芝回首，牝鹿頭生肉芝頂，口觸靈芝。二鹿伏臥，略成犄角，擱筆穩當無虞。鹿與「祿」諧音，寄意官運亨通，靈芝仙草寓意長生不老，諧音吉祥之題材在清代宮廷藝術中十分流行。 北京故宮藏一件清代青玉雙鹿銜芝，題材類似，風格相近，可參考之，見《故宮博物院藏品大系玉器篇9》，北京，2011年，編號145。另可參考一件邦瀚斯新邦德街售出之青白玉仙鹿銜靈擺件，2016年5月12日，拍品編號156。
