'The Cavalier' By Jules Desgoffe (French, B 1864):
an oil on board of a cavalier in red pantaloons and coat carrying a spear in his gauntleted hand. There is a doublet of armor and plumed helmet with a sword resting nearby. Worn velvet mat in a heavy gilded frame that has some damage (see photos). Desgoffe was the son of Blaise-Alexandre Desgoffe. He studied under Rober-Fleury and Bougrereau. He first exhibited in the Salon in 1886. From the Collection of Frank S. Schwarz & Son of Philadelphia.
