Late Shang dynasty,12th/11th century BCERaised on three blade-form supports, the U-shaped body elegantly cast with a wide band of taotie masks separated by vertical flanges and reserved on an elegant leiwen ground extending to cicada blades under the flared spout and rim and set off by two whorl-capped posts and a plain curved handle partly obscuring a cast pictogram of a kneeling figure, the surface covered in areas with a rich malachite and cuprite patina.7 1/8in (18.2cm) high
