TRANSLATION: I am like a stubborn rock and hence use Shiwu as my courtesy name. This painting by Yunquan (courtesy name of Wang Pu) was finished forty years ago in the year of Xinyou. Yunquan is good at depicting rocks andhis drawing always capture the spirit of rock. A Han-dynasty carved stela was found in Mt. Ganquan, Its inscription reads ‘the twenty-eighth of the CentralHall', and was identified as the stela from the central palace hall of the Guangling King, Liu Xu. The style of my first four characters (shenggong shuofa) is inspired by the stela. I am certainly bound with rocks as my courtesy name is Shiwu.
