An Ottoman engraved silver and gold-inlaid pen case, devit 18th/19th century Possibly Egyptian, the slender, slightly tapering pen holder with engraved scrolling design, one side apparently inscribed in Arabic script "Kalawun" and "Sultan, the just...Amir, the Victorious" and "by Muammad", hinged cover, connected to an octagonal ink well with hinged cover, stamped mark with indistinct tugra to underside of well, a second indistinct stamp to side of pen case. L: 13 in., 33 cm PROVENANCE: Collection of Mr. Horace W. Davis, Pitsfield, Massachusetts, by February, 1936 Thence by descent to the present owner
