Each with a rose-ground well painted with a monochrome trophy of crossed torches, the rims with further classical trophies above swags of flower garlands between gilt bands, 23.4cm diam., Sevres.x. in iron-red, painter's marks in iron-red and incised marks
|The service was supplied in January 1805 to the Palais Stupinigi in Turin for Napoleon's stay there before his coronation as the "roi d'Italie" in May of the same year. There were 96 dinner plates in the service, see Camille Le Prince, Napoléon Ier & la Manufacture de Sèvres (2016), p. 256 for the full composition of the service, which had a total value of 4,592 francs.
