Exceptional Gilt Bronze Figure of Mahakala, Qing Dynasty. Height: 7.75 inches. One of the eight wrathful deities included in the Buddhist Pantheon. Depicted lunging over an elephant-headed entity, the wrathful divinity holding different attributes including the kartrika and kapala in his primary arms, a damaru and a rosary of skulls, with an elephant skin stretched across his back and wearing a necklace of severed heads, snakes and various adornments, the base of the lotus pedestal sealed with a consecration plate engraved with a visvavajra.
