提要：此书半叶九行二十字，四周单边，白口，单鱼尾。全书两编，上编为对于前人有关论画与鉴赏的编录，下编是从古史传说时代至元代画家的传记，其中1300余人有传，近200人只列姓。该书搜罗广博，删节取舍前人著作，不失梗概，是中国最早的一部绘画通史简编。明清两代迭经翻刻，影响甚大。此康熙间借绿草堂原刻本，版心下有“借绿草堂”四字。此本校正精细，为清以来最佳版本，因有杨维祯序，世称杨序本，后之翻刻皆祖此本。钤印：梅花宝印、梅逸、鸣海平氏清玩、蒹葭堂、梅花逸人
