Each crouching on its haunches with muscles tensed beneath a tasseled collar centered with a lion head mask, the head with curly mane and a snarling jaw turned toward a ribboned ball beneath the front right leg of the male while a tiny cub squirms beneath the left foot of its mother; each separately carved rectangular plinth draped with a brocade cloth in a lotus flower and leaf pattern filling each corner as it hangs over the waisted mid-section finished as opposing lotus petal bands. 38 1/4in (97cm) high
