Minas Gerais, BrazilCleavelandite was named in 1823 in honor of Parker Cleaveland, professor of geology and mineralogy at Bowdoin College in Maine 1805-1858. In 1816 Cleaveland wrote the first mineralogy textbook authored by a citizen of the USA. The present, Brazilian specimen, is a classic mineral association with excellent aesthetics, consisting of a large plates of muscovite mica at the base, capped with glistening, colorless albite, a plaglioclase feldspar, in the variety known as Clevelandite, having typical bladed or platy crystals.
