Derived from the Greek word meaning "most beautiful", the original Kallista, made in 1979, was carved from 1 kilogram of solid gold and set with 118 emerald-cut diamonds, weighing 130 carats. The piece took over 600 hours to assemble and over five years to collect all 118 stones to fit the design. With the high-fashion opulence of the 1970s and 1980s in full splendor, Vacheron Constantin continued production of various Kalla designs. Many Kalla watches bear noble titles like the King, Lord, Lady, Count and Countess or names that relate to their new design forms such as Pagoda, Vague (Wave in French), Flame to name a few. Following the graceful curvature of the case and bracelet, a further 182 trapeze-cut and 560 baguette-cut diamonds in total weighing approximately 50 carats have been painstakingly sourced and finely set to deliver a breathtakingly regal and aesthetic tour-de-force.
