Housed within the impressively sized 45mm platinum case further set with 17.57 carats of baguette-cut diamonds, lies the beating heart of this handsome watch, the Calibre 9454 MC. Stamped with The Geneva Seal (or Poinçon de Genève) an accolade achieved only by exceptionally-finished Swiss movements, the Calibre 9454 MC is composed of 242 parts including 25 jewels. The meticulously crafted double tourbillon rotates on two axes; the entire escapement rotates around the aperture at 6 o'clock once every five minutes and rotates on its own axis once per minute. Most appealing to its wearer, the double tourbillon appears to dance "mysteriously" as a rotating sapphire crystal disc aids this optical illusion. This wristwatch cleverly incorporates a miniature version of Cartier's "Mystery Clock" mechanism first conceived by Louis Cartier and the Maison's clockmaker Maurice Coüet, and also inspired by the work of illusionist Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin. The first mystery clock, "The Model A" was created in 1912 and these "marvels of horology" as first noted in the Gazette du Bon Ton in 1925, continue as icons of Cartier's decorative style.
