Jade carvings of hound-like dogs such as the present lot can be found as early as the late Tang dynasty, see a jade carving of a dog, Tang dynasty, illustrated by G.Tsang, Chinese Jade Animals, Hong Kong, 1996, no.68. Compare also with a similar jade recumbent dog, Song dynasty, illustrated by J.Rawson, Chinese Jades from the Neolithic to the Qing, London, 1995, pl.26:10. See also a carving of a jade recumbent dog, Song dynasty, from the Songzhutang Collection, which was sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 30 May 2017, lot 57, and compare with a yellow and russet jade dog, Ming dynasty, which was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 6 April 2016, lot 3001. Rawson著《Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing》,倫敦,1995年,圖版26:10。
