In the Style of Miao Jiahui (active ca. 1875-1908), Pine Tree and Cranes, Framed under glass, 81 x 41,5 cm, ink and colors on paper. Inscription and signature: "Eight hundred times everlasting spring. Lady Miao Jiahui from Diannan". Two seals of the artist. Miao Jiahui, style name Suyun, was from Kunming in Yunnan province (Diannan). After her husband had died early she had to rely on painting and playing the lute for a living. When Empress dowager Cixi (1835-1908) was looking for women painters, she was sent to Peking and got the favor of the Empress dowager. She was allowed to join her entourage and became the ghost painter of Cixi. Most paintings by Cixi are in fact done by Miao Jiahui - Formerly property from an old European private collection, acquired prior to 1990 - Minor traces of age
