AN IMPORTANT GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, CHINA, Ming dynasty, 16th ct., wood base. Seated in vajrasana on a plinth with his right hand resting on his right knee in bhumisparshamudra while the left is raised just above his lap with the palm up, wearing monastic robes, including lower garment secured with a ribbon knotted to the front, its borders cast with scrolling tendrils, his chest engraved with the swastika emblem, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows running into his nose-bridge, urna, elongated earlobes, curled hair and ushnisha topped with a lotus-bud and set to the front with a ratna, traces of gilt- and black lacquer - Property from an important German private collection, collected prior 1990 - Very minor wear
