The pagoda carved crest rail above a trellis panelled back and stuff-over seat, raised on square chamfered legs After a design by Thomas Chippendale. The decoration on this piece reflects the great love he had for exotic Chinese-style interiors, which he incorporated into many of the great houses in England, including Harewood House and Nostell Priory. Similarly, pieces made by Chippendale found their way to Ireland; typically as a result of inheritance or marriage. A suite of Chippendale furniture is at the seat of the Earl of Rosse, Birr Castle, Co. Offaly, Ireland. The suite was brought to the castle by Anne, Countess of Rosse on the occasion of her marriage in 1935.(Literature ''IN AN IRISH HOUSE 'Published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson, London page 124).
