Extremely fine, large painting, in very good to excellent. Frame has some damage in corners, notably upper and lower left facing. Note: Perhaps one of his greatest works, completed in 1852, New Bedford, Massachusetts; this is an allegorical work rich in symbolism of his views on American expansion in relation to Europes past, the central female figure representing a search for truth.
