Length: 100 1/2" Width: 103 3/4" Chinese Qing Dynasty silk wall hanging, circa 1855, couch embroidered with metallic threads on a red ground, the large central area with a birthday poem for a Chinese high rank officer, surrounded by a highly embellished border filled with auspicious symbols, the interior border comprised of the deities Luxing (wealth), Shoulao (longevity), and Fuxing (prosperity), along with the eight immortals, and a pagoda surrounded by animal imagery, including cranes (longevity) and deer (auspice), the exterior border with a central imperial dragon flanked by phoenixes, and three foo lions at play (a symbol for wishing a successful career), all interspersed with floriated designs.
