唐宋以来，中国艺术文化发酵成熟。在文人阶层的引领之下，琴棋书画渐为时尚，衣食住行均有讲究。在这种文化大背景下，熏香也开始发展成为一种艺术，一种生活方式。北宋王禹偁在《黄州新建小竹楼记》有言，“公退之暇，手持《周易》一卷，焚香默坐，消遣事虑”。瓷质的香熏较为少见，此香熏盖呈半圆形、镂孔装饰缠枝花纹，形成出香口；身为子母口、腹部刻仰莲瓣纹，下承云台形足。器外壁满施白釉，釉面莹润，胎质洁白细腻，制作精细。
