|The proceeding two lots were created by Robert Goossens in 1973. The theme of stalks of wheat were selected in homage to his close friend and collaborator, Coco Chanel, who had passed away just two years previously. Throughout their years of friendship, Goossens returned repeatedly to the theme of stalks of wheat for numerous designs for Chanel, of which the wheat sheaf coffee table is perhaps the best known. Chanel selected the wheat sheaf motif as a potent symbol of good fortune and prosperity.
