|The original design was conceived by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1925 for use in his home Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The design became widely popular, and versions were ordered for use in many of Wright's later architectural commissions, including the Lloyd Lewis House, 1939, Zimmerman House, 1950, and the Robert Llewellyn Wright House, 1953. Later versions of the design would feature a shade constructed from either rice paper or grass cloth, or in some cases cloth. The examples commissioned for the Lloyd Lewis House in Libertyville, Illinois, also differed in having the electric flex emanating from the inside of the stem, rather than outside.
